What You Need To Know About The Upcoming Samsung S9 Series

December 15, 2017 Android News Rumours Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S9 series could only be months away from release. Word has it the upcoming flagships S9 and S9 plus will be officially announced in an event in March 2018 and the unveiling might even take place as early as early January.

Sources have cited that it will not be major upgrade. The iris scanning lens would be upgraded from 2MP to 3MP in an endeavor to better identify users’ irises especially under very bright and very dark environments as well as for moving eyes and bespectacled users. The Korean Herald has confirmed that the iris scanner will operate faster on the S9 compared to its predecessors.

The current 2D facial recognition software will still be used as well as the under-display fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner for the S9 series however will be likely be placed below the camera, sitting nicely in the middle of the phone instead of the awkward location right next to the camera.

It is said that S9 Plus may have 2GB of RAM more than S9. It may also sport a dual camera setup whereas S9 would get a single one. However, both devices will be using the same chipset i.e. either the Exynos 9810 or the unreleased Snapdragon 845 and running the latest Android Oreo.

S9 flagships will have in-built AKG stereo speakers for a superior immersive audio quality.

Design-wise the S9 series will feature the same curved displays as the Galaxy S8 series. Their appearance would be very similar to their predecessors albeit with smaller bezels.

Given the fact Samsung usually releases their Galaxy S phones in first quarter, these flagships are certainly ones we should keep watch for in early 2018.
